THE WATER/LION WALL
Wednesday - QUIZ CHANGER
Who doesn't love the New York Times Connections game? The fun-for-the-family game of 16 words that form four groups of four. For example this grid debuted on the 12th Feb 2024:
And here is the solution!
What fun!
Well… it's a ripoff! Stolen straight from the tabled hands of Victoria Coren Mitchell and her UK quiz show Only Connect! This show is brilliant, and I want nothing more than to be on it, and lose to Victoria in a game of poker.
But you all knew that, because you're clever clogs who probably watch and love that show! Well good news abounds!
Australia is about to start it's third season of COQL! A league friendly game of Connections with Aussies at the helm. We basically play the game Only Connect, but online over Zoom. So if you've ever wanted to be on that gameshow (but instead of obscure BritCon about weird monarchs, you get Aussie themed stuff) - then rally up two friends and join here!
You'll meet a bunch of Australia's top quizzers, step into a very welcoming environment (with a bit of friendly competition), and… probably not a selling point… but you'll meet me! I'll be the host of the majority of the games (along with other veteran quizzers) - and I will be writing a lot of the questions! We have 16 teams of 3 so far, and all of them loved Season 1 so much, they came back for Season 2 AND Season 3! So get in before we fill up! I'd love to build that community. If you're interested in READING games, reach out! And if you want to play but can't find a team, message on the Discord and we'll match you up with others!
Below is the nail-biting grand final of Season 1. It's the HARDEST it gets - expect much much friendlier rounds for the start of the seasons. (Also, in round 3 they play Grid 5 below - so spoilers!!)
To celebrate the occasion, Ive trawled up 5 of the walls that were played in the previous seasons (that I wrote). I advise not doing them alone, but play with a team of 3! As you won't be alone if you come play in the league.
They are played best on a separate site called PuzzGrid. You'll have access to over 120,000 other grids there if you like that sort of thing :)
Enjoy!
Note, unlike connections on the NYT site… you get UNLIMITED guesses for the first 2 groups, but only 3 lives for the last two groups. Additionally, you only get 3 minutes (just like in the real show)
